supporters we are able to get Kellie to and from therapy each day, purchase medical supplies and medication, and see necessary medical professional regarding Kellie's injuries. We are still struggling with government assistance as far as care givers, and Medicaid goes. If anyone knows of a health worker, case worker, or social worker who can help us with care giving or medicaid please message me. We do not know what we would have done with out the support we have received from Team Kellie and are greatly appreciative for everyone's concern and support! Kellie has been working hard at therapy but has been frustrated by the slow rate of progress. She has gained strength in her upper body and is currently working on transfers. Transfers include her physically moving herself from either her bed to her chair or her chair to any other surface such as her bed, couch, or work out machine. She has not gained much function back in her fingers or legs but continues to gain steady strength in
her arms. Months following the accident I think most people were expecting drastic results in too short of a time frame. I think we probably were expecting too much too soon. Many spinal cord injury patients who do walk again don't actually do so till years after their injury. It takes a lot of hard work, determination and regular therapy to see results. As Kellie's supporter it hurts me so much to see her work so hard and become frustrated. Just like all of us we all need constant encouragement. After so many months the hype of Team Kellie has seemed to fade away into the background. In hopes of reviving this attitude of encouragement and support my older brother, Loren Hsiao has come with a campaign called the 'I promise' Campaign. As I was always involved in Athletics, I know how easily it can be to be frustrated and want to give up when things don't go your way. One thing I remember that was vital towards successful training was the constant encouragement a team mate could provide during practice or training. When you
have a team mate keeping you accountable you tend to work harder not only for yourself but also for your team. To coincide with this idea, my brother wanted to incorporate a constant stream of support and encouragement through the
members of Team Kellie. Through this 'I Promise Campaign' we can encourage each other as we encourage Kellie. I will have more details about the 'I Promise Campaign' in a following post.
